Jianna was a Sacerdote, later chief priest (Pontifex Populi), of the Roman Clergy. One of the only plebeian-born priestesses in clergy leadership, Jianna was a loud advocate for plebeian rights and standings. As such, she was also the head of Liber alongside Tonius Popilius.

Biography
Jianna was orphaned as a small child, leading to her living on the streets for a while. She survived due to the help of her childhood friend, Tonius Popilius, and later picked up fortune-telling for money. As she grew up, her devotion to the gods made her join the Roman Clergy. Spending her days as one of the Sacerdotes, always interacting with people, she watched the Plebeians struggle every day. Her heart was torn until one day, while reading the cards, Trivia spoke to her with a new calling - the gods were also unhappy seeing their followers suffer. There was a new task for the Plebeian priestess - she was to become the voice of the people. She needed to start the changes she wanted to see. With this new duty, alongside Tonius, who shared her views, they started Liber - a revolutionary group calling for equal Plebeian rights, named after one of the faces of Bacchus, the patron deity of Plebeians. Liber planned from the shadows, gathering like-minded people under the same goal at night, while during the day Jianna fulfilled her duties as a priestess. As Liber was getting ready to go public, the heretics began to run rampant in Rome, requiring action from the Clergy, which was stretching Jianna thin as she gave her all to both causes. Unfortunately, tired people make mistakes more easily. Liber was discovered, and it led to Jianna being accused of heresy by a suspicious priest, and then by the Pontifex Beneminius Fulminii, who didn't recognise Liber as one of the faces of Bacchus, but called him a new heretical god. The charges, however, were dropped extremely fast and without a trial, due to Jianna's known devotion to the gods among the members of the Roman Clergy, as well as the death of the accuser, Pontifex Beneminius Fulminii. Instead, due to the previous Chief Priest Alba Verus Kaine stepping up to become one of the new Pontiffs Maximus, she was offered a promotion and became Pontifex Populi. She proceeded to fight for Plebeian rights with Liber openly, while also putting her utmost efforts into stamping out the heretics still left in Rome, now bearing even more responsibility in front of the gods. Even in the face of everything that happened in Rome, she remained loyal till the end, always carrying the mission given to her by the Pantheon.

Appearance
Jianna is a rather short, slim woman due to malnourishment when she was a child. Tonius used to joke that a gust of wind would blow her away if she wasn't careful. Ever since she joined the clergy, her situation has improved, however, the damage was already done, so her frame stayed forever petite. Her purple hair goes down to her waist, and it's fine and wavy - sometimes almost puffy, looking like a lilac cloud whenever a breeze blows through it. Her eyes are green, like her father's, and big just like her mother's. She has small lips with a pronounced cupid's bow, and a mole right under it on the right side. Her skin is pale, due to staying in the temples all day, and also because she seems a bit sensitive to sunlight - whenever it's bright outside, it makes her eyes sting, so she prefers to just stay indoors. She wears simple white dresses with a lilac trim, a matching shawl always thrown over her shoulders and covering her head. It was a gift from her then Chief Priest, Alba Verus Kaine, to congratulate her on joining the Sacerdotes. After all, all priests and priestesses had to wear something purple to identify them. With her promotion, she had to buy the new shawl herself after the dust had settled. The old one still lies in her closet, in pristine condition and neatly folded, a reminder of a dear friend and mentor.

Personality
Her heart has always been filled with determination. Jianna believes the most important thing is to proudly stand with what you believe in. This makes her fiercely loyal, whether it is to her friends or to the gods. It causes her to commit to everything she does fully. She would spend whole days at the Temple, only to come back and make plans for Liber with Tonius till the middle of the night. Witnessing so much injustice towards Plebeians as a child, Jianna took a very strong stance on equal rights between them and Patricians. She used her influence as a priestess to help out as much as she could, while secretly figuring out how to fix the unfair system in place. She is extremely pious, believing that everything in the end is the will of the gods - even the cruel things that happen around them. However, that doesn't mean everything is out of their hands - after all, everyone can be an agent of the gods, and it's their responsibility to fight for the better future the divine can offer. Level-headed, mature, and responsible, she prefers for things to be fully planned out rather than taking impulsive action. While empathetic and understanding toward most, she can't bring herself to feel anything other than hate when faced with the heretics - not when they are actively attacking their only true pantheon. The ones she met so far have only ever been truly malicious, not one of them a soul she could understand - thus, this selfish image of them settled in her mind.

Story
Pre-FOTR
Orphaned young, Jianna found salvation in the calling of Trivia. Pushed out to the streets, every day was a fight for survival for such a young child fending for herself. Her parents died in a fruitless war, all of their possessions confiscated by the state, leaving the poor child alone.

If it wasn't for her friend, Tonius Popilius, who regularly snuck out some bread for her and left the back door of their house open for her to sneak in at night and sleep, she would have been long dead. That was, until one faithful day, when Trivia finally called for her. Wandering around, looking for any scraps to eat, she stumbled upon a Romani fortune teller, who was reading the cards in a back alley. Feeling an unexplainable pull, like enchanted, she approached the woman. The cards were speaking to her, whispering about the past, present, and the future. She watched the fortune teller perform the reading for one client, then another, and another, and before she realised, she stood there for over half a day. She might have stood there for even longer if the woman didn't finally approach her herself.

With a mysterious glint in her eye, the fortune teller took her hands and put a deck of cards in them. The same tarot cards she had been using this whole time.

"Now that you understand, go forth, my child."

The voice sounded like mist curling up the walls, a slithering of a snake, moonlight slipping in through the window, and yet, at the same time - it was somehow warm. As Jianna looked up from the cards to meet the woman's gaze again, she was met with nothing. The fortune teller disappeared. The only evidence of her ever being here was the small booth she gave readings from, and the cards in Jianna's hands.

That was the first time she spoke with Trivia.

Thanks to the goddess' gift, Jianna was able to survive by giving readings to people on the streets for a coin or a loaf of bread. As she deepened her faith, she soon joined the Roman Clergy as well. She is a devout follower of all gods, but she never forgot her mission to spread the word of Trivia. Fortune telling is a gift given to her by the gods, and she uses it every day to connect them with the people.

Responsible for rituals and ceremonies, she acts as a guide between heaven and earth, bringing the divine to the common. She takes it upon herself to make sure the word of the gods is communicated properly, and that they are also worshipped as required. For those who cannot speak to the gods directly, she shall act as a messenger through the ways bestowed upon the Temple. And beyond the official rituals, she acts as a medium through readings, giving them out to those who seek to know their fate, wish to hear the will of the gods, or seek advice from the divine.
The Roman Clergy is a group which was responsible for running the Temple and all religion-related matters in Rome. It consisted of priests and priestesses, split between five groups under the leadership of Chief Priests and Priestesses, all working under a chosen Pontifex Maximus. They were known as the Religion faction, one of the three pillars of Rome. Acting as the messengers of the gods, they were one of the main players in the conflict between gods and heretic forces.
At the head of all Clergy, there is a Pontifex Maximus. This is the person who has supreme authority, interprets the will of the gods, and leads all religious matters.

Under the Pontifex Maximus serve the Pontifices Maiores, also known as Chief Priests and Priestesses. They are each the head of five groups into which Ministeria Sacra (also known as Clergy) are divided.
Clerical Duties
The Clergy were responsible for the important task of maintaining the relationship of Roman citizens with their gods. They attended to the temples, making sure they were clean, well-maintained, properly decorated to fit the chosen gods, and, most importantly, safe. They crafted altars to the gods, blessed homes, and helped any citizens who wanted to properly pray and worship. More than once, clergy members have also officiated weddings. They walked amongst the citizens and shared the will and grace of the gods, inspiring people to worship the gods at their own homes too. They offered their services to anyone who wanted help with making a shrine to the gods, conducting a ritual to praise them, or wanted to make proper offerings to the divine. Not to mention, an official Prayer Guide has been prepared for the public by the College of Pontiffs, with simple prayers that citizens could use to communicate with the divine daily or in times of need.

The Ludi Romanii was a publicly-held event, headed by Pontifex Populi Alba Verus Kaine for the faith of the Roman populace. At the event, there was opportunity for citizens to partake in public and group prayer, horse racing, merchant booths, and food and drink provided and funded by the other chief priests.

It was also their duty to make sure that the gods were happy by making sacrifices at the altars and reading the natural signs sent to them. As the heretic cults started appearing, the Clergy also became responsible for stamping them out.

The College of Pontiffs prepared an official registry of The Roman Pantheon recognised by the Temple as the deities who were true gods of Rome, and should be worshipped by the masses, as to avoid any confusion. Many heretic hunts were organised, headed by Pontifex Caeli Cinna Lucretia Cento and Pontifex Rituum Donutella Vinarius, as well as shifts at the temples led by Pontifex Sacrorum Astra Vera Sol (later succeeded by Nefarius Umbrum Porpus) to make sure the altars to Roman gods didn't get desecrated by the heretics.

In the face of the conflict brewing in Rome, both human and divine, Clergy stood at the front lines of the divine conflict, doing their best to sway the favour towards their gods and save the citizens of Rome from impending doom as well as the lies of heretic forces.
Description
This is the transcript of a document which was created by the College of Pontiffs (then Chief Priest Astra Vera Sol and Chief Priest Cinna Lucretia Cento) for the citizens of Rome, giving them easy-to-remember prayers they could say whenever they wished to worship the Roman gods.

Prayer Guide
Orationis Liber
This manuscript serves as a suggested collection of prayers for all members of the republic of Rome.

I: Prayer of Retribution
I offer the person who stole my item to the most holy [name of deity]. Whether they be man or woman, slave or free, may the god [name of deity] hound them to utter ruin and allow them no sleep and no offspring, now or yet to come, until they return my item to the temple of thine power.

II: Prayer of Offering
To our divine pantheon, please accept this offering. Please take this as a sign of our ceaseless devotion to the land you have so graciously crafted for us. We will continue the temporary stewardship gifted to us by the gods over these golden plains and cresting waves.

III: Prayer of Offering (II)
To our blessed pantheon, I thrust myself at thine altar. Please accept this most humble offering at thine door. May thou find my faith holy and my spirit clean. May my devotion be found in the cracks and crevices of my offering, and may thine divine will guide me rightly.

IV: Prayer of Healing
With potent herbs do I now intercede; and to your majesty make my appeal: they were made by Mother Earth, and given as a gift for all. We beg that all mankind may find your favor and that you may provide aid most serviceable. Please provide sound healing for health's sake. I shall set forth the produce of the fields for you and return thanks through the name of the gods.

V: Prayer of Wellness
Hear me, [name of deity], I pray and beseech thee that thou be gracious and merciful to me, my house, and my household; to my ground, my farm; that thou keep away, ward off, and remove sickness, seen and unseen, barrenness and destruction, ruin and unseasonable influence; and that thou permit my harvests, my grain, and my vine-yards to flourish. Preserve in health my shepherds and my flocks, and give good health and strength to me, my house and my household.

VI: Prayer of Arms
Jupiter Optimus Maximus, Juno Regina, and You virtuous dancer, Minerva, Concordia of the bereaved, Victoria of the Romans, grant this meeting of the Senate of the Roman people, grant these Roman soldiers, and those soldiers of our allies and of friendly foreign nations as well, that they will serve as he commands.

VII: Prayer to Patron Deity
Hail to you, [name of deity]! To you, Father Jupiter, I pay tribute at the start of this ceremony, with good prayers and good heart, freely, offering you this portion of incense I now pour into the flames, hoping you look kindly on this house and those who dwell in it. And to you, [name of deity], I offer also this libation of wine I now pour into the flames, asking you to testify and sanctify this ceremony, oh High God.

VIII: Offering of Wine
I thank you for your attention and blessing and offer you still, with good prayers and good heart, this portion of wine I now pour into the fire, in grateful tribute to you.

IX: Prayer of Eternal Sleep
O’God, may you guide with your staff the soul of [name of deceased], who is a child of this earth. Guide them to the afterworld, the pure place with wondrous light, and filled with joyful voices and dance, with hushed sacred sounds and holy images.

X: Prayer of Reprisal (Vulcan)
Holy Vulcan, foremost of this place, to You we pray. Grant peace to the exhausted fire brigades and to those who service the fountains. If none are harmed so very much, if the flames You permit to assault only a few deplorable souls, Holy One, then at each of your altars they will sing your praises, three times, three times they will pour libations and make thick with incense Your altar fires piled high with fruitful boughs.

XI: Prayer of Wellbeing (Apollo)
O’ Apollo, whose light embraces the world, you orbit forever returning, your face glowing on each day, your horses harnessed as a team to drive your chariot, with manes braided they rise high, passing over clouds as you reign their frothing fires. Already yet another year begins, measured by the footsteps of brothers, who as new consuls gladly offer their prayers and vows.

XII: Prayer of Respite
Grant, O Gods, that the earth may lie soft and gently upon the shades of our ancestors, and may their urns be filled with a perpetual springtime blooming with the sweet scents of crocus.
Biography
Appearance
A strong, medium sized man. Reminders of both his regrets and pride mark his body. He always walks tall and prideful, even in his most shameful moments.

Personality
Hot blooded, righteous, a hard worker but most of all a fool. He is always the first to speak out about wrongdoings and wants equality for all. Although he likes to believe himself close to Minerva when it comes to battle and life, it's obvious he most closely resembles Mars. His biggest pitfall is believing too much, only a fool can blindly trust in a stranger.

Story
Pre-FOTR
Growing up he was always a dreamer, loving stories of myths and legends. With his family and the republic always talking about big dreams and ideas, he wanted to keep dreaming too. Being a legionary would be his way to achieve those dreams. He could grow strong enough to protect everyone he loves and get riches beyond what he could even imagine.

So, he trained hard with that goal in mind, even when things didn’t go his way he never knew of quitting. When he finally came of age and became a legionary, he thought to himself “The dream starts here”. He was so excited and honoured to work with and for the Republic he had held so close to his heart. He loved the people in the Republic more than anything else, so as a legionary he went around helping as many people as he could. However, this dream did not last long.

The longer he worked as a legionary, and the more he saw the average day struggle for many Romans, the more he began to doubt the Republic. Was a government who would let their people suffer like this really all that great? Should he be proud working for them like this? As these doubts began to form in his mind, one thing kept coming into his mind: “it's all the fault of the patricians”.

After that, he started to dedicate all his effort on trying to make a better Republic for everyone. A place where every person could get an equal chance, not just Romans or patricians.
PEACE OF THE GODS

As a member of the Clergy, our duties involve gaining and
maintaining our relationship with the gods.

To appease them, we must give offerings and make sacrifices
to a certain amount to prevent suffering prodigia (divine wrath).

Many signs of divine wrath include, but are not limited to:
Liber is a group of underground revolutionaries, looking to change the future of Rome.
The corrupt government has taken advantage of us Plebians for far too long! They keep sending us to war, or extort us for all our money, just to keep all the spoils and riches to themselves. When was the last time a war or taxes actually brought us things we need, as Plebians? When was the last time the people in power actually did anything good with us in mind? Meanwhile, these Patricians are out here hoarding everything, getting richer as we speak. We have had enough. It's time to make our voices heard. We've been begging for too long, if they don't want to listen, we WILL make them listen.
Liber has been waiting in the shadows for years, scheming, preparing, and finally, during the plight of the Republic, they find themselves stepping into the limelight. They state they are here to change the times, to take out all the corruption of the Republic:
Everyone deserves equal chances and the right to have dreams. We deserve to live peacefully, not worrying about surviving the next day.
Description
The Roman Clergy is a group which was responsible for running the Temple and all religion-related matters in Rome. It consisted of priests and priestesses, split between five groups under the leadership of Chief Priests and Priestesses, all working under a chosen Pontifex Maximus. They were known as the Religion faction, one of the three pillars of Rome. Acting as the messengers of the gods, they were one of the main players in the conflict between gods and heretic forces.

Structure
At the head of all Clergy, there is a Pontifex Maximus. This is the person who has supreme authority, interprets the will of the gods, and leads all religious matters. Under the Pontifex Maximus serve the Pontifices Maiores, also known as Chief Priests and Priestesses. They are each the head of five groups into which Ministeria Sacra (also known as Clergy) are divided.
Life of Clergy
Many heretic hunts were organised, as well as shifts at the temples to make sure the altars to Roman gods didn't get desecrated by the heretics. In the face of the conflict brewing in Rome, both human and divine, Clergy stood at the front lines of the divine conflict, doing their best to sway the favour towards their gods and save the citizens of Rome from impending doom as well as the lies of heretic forces.
Description
It is a cult centered around a heretical deity known as Mithras. Mithras has shown himself to the citizens of Rome a few times, taking on the form of a bunny with, more often than not, red eyes. The deity posed a challenge to the Roman gods, calling them out on their indifference and cold justice towards their followers, in doing so earning quite a few followers. Cultist altars dedicated to Mithras started appearing all over Rome, stirring up the relationship of the city with its gods. An organised cult formed, with Decaeneus the Dacian as its head. The cultists constructed many underground shrines and meeting spots, where they worshipped Mithras in secret, sending the Temple into frenzy, and sparking multiple city-wide heretic hunts.

Story
The cult was started by a man known as Decaeneus the Dacian. Harbouring hostile feelings towards the Roman gods, he set out to make the first mithraeum, an underground shrine for the heretic deity known as Mithras, under the floors of House Aurelion. Members of the family remained unaware, as he made offerings to Mithras right under their noses. On that faithful day, the fragile peace of the celestial plane in Rome was shattered. Forces long forgotten, which remained deeply asleep until now, opened their eyes once more. And they answered the call.

As heretic forces stirred up in Rome, the gods got angry and demanded that priests from the Temple hunt down the cultist shrines. As rain poured down on the citizens, thunder rumbling and lightning tearing through the gray skies, the devout followers were forced to run through the city and desecrate any heretic altars they could find. This resulted in the shrine under House Aurelion being found, marking the family as possible heretics. As the framed family was put on trial, Decaeneus was working hard to gather more people for his cause, forming the first cell. He also testified against a member of House Aurelion, claiming they made the shrine, trying to frame the leader of House Aurelion. As the heretic hunt was unfolding, one group of the priests stumbled upon an altar in a cave, where, upon desecrating it, Mithras showed themselves. They taunted the priests, calling their gods ungrateful and cold, undeserving of such loyalty, before they disappeared again.

As more and more accused heretics were apprehended, the Chief Priests (who held deciding power in the absence of the Pontifex Maximus that day) called for a Holy Trial. Jupiter himself came down from the skies to judge the accused. One heretic met his fate from the godly lightning, but evidence for all the rest of them proved significantly insufficient, which angered the King of Gods. After all, he was righteous and just, so he refused to strike anyone down, scolding the Chief Priests for wasting his time, and disappeared once again. The rest of the accused were hence promptly released.

Fortunately for all of Rome, the heretic hunting parties, which consisted of priests of the Temple and legionares dispatched by the Senate, managed to find and destroy most of the cultist altars, appeasing the gods. This earned the city a bountiful year, minerals, yield, and harvest all sustaining its citizens properly - a blessing from the gods to their faithful followers.

Alas, it was only a battle won - not the war.

The cult was slowly growing in size in the shadows, another cell forming under the leadership of Decaeneus. Heretic attacks ramped up, the Temple of Jupiter getting desecrated multiple times - one at the hands of Decaeneus, for which he was promptly arrested. A whistleblower from the first cell came foward, trying to sell out the members of the cult, but none of them were arrested, while the second cell was left uncompromised. Due to lax security of the prison, Decaeneus managed to escape, and some members of the second cell were assigned to guard him from now on. Another mithraeum was made in an abandoned house, where the cult performed some rituals, while waiting for the situation to cool off.

As Rome fell into chaos, the cult only rose in power. They were preparing for a new ritual, one that would change their fate forever. Another mithraeum was made, this one designated as the main shrine of the cult - right under the headquarters of The Brotherhood. The cultists gathered together to finally fulfill their goal. Decaeneus' swan song - he was to become one with Mithras, ascend, and become the embodiment of the god, giving them his flesh to use as their own.

The ritual succeeded. As he destroyed even more Roman altars, Decaeneus was killed, going out in a blaze of glory as he ascended and became one with his god. The cult of Mithras persisted after his death, desecrating even more shrines, destroying temples, and causing deaths of some civilians, but their power grew weaker against the efforts of the Temple priests. Likewise, the voices of the Roman gods also grew weaker as conflict between Saturn and Jupiter broke out, and heretics in Rome made them distance themselves from their followers. Mithras made a final appearance at the Temple of Jupiter, trying to sow fear and doubt into the hearts of priests and civilians present, however met with a firm stance from the believers he left, going silent once more.

For now, it seems like the citizens of Rome are safe, but no one knows when Mithras might return.

And they will return.
