== Family's Origin ==
When Romulus appointed the first hundred senators, thereby giving birth to the original patrician families, Rome was but a collection of insignificant shacks on 7 hills. Born out of the love of Senator Gaius Gracchus and the Goddess Ceres, Flavius, a bastard who stood to inherit nothing, joined the legions to carve something of his own name.

After 30 grueling years of service in the wars against the Etruscans, Flavius returned to Rome to purchase an estate with his hard-earned Denarii to live out his veteran years, only to find all the fertile lands around the capital owned by men who hadn’t lifted a finger, let alone touched a sword, for the Republic. On top of that, these gluttons only used the lands for themselves, to plant grapes to fill their pockets, and less to fill the bellies of the people. Flavius’ resentment towards the established Patricians in the capital drove his later lineage to accumulate considerable amounts of territory outside of the city. Those estates became fundamental in feeding the entire Roman populace for years to come, becoming instrumental in the history of Rome for generations.

During the Punic Wars, the Gracchi took on a significant role of leadership. The family utilised its own estates and lingering resentment to help bolster and maintain supply lines and ensure the Roman armies were fed. Members of the family actively participated as commanders throughout the wars. The Gracchi rose to higher standing during the campaign for Carthage during the Third Punic war, serving as commanders during the siege to take the city. For their leading role, they were given lands around the razed city where they would rule over the local families, acquiring some Punic heritage in the process.

After a full harvest has been completed, the Gracchus Family will take the highest quality crops of their yield and burn it on an ancient brazier, inscripted with the crest of Ceres. It is believed that the fire acts as a deliverance medium to bring the crop yield to Ceres, where she will then judge the quality of the crops. If Ceres does not approve of the quality of the crops delivered to her, she will bring a harsh and punishing winter upon the land; whereas if the crops offered meet her standards, she will bless the land to be more fertile during the next growing season.

The Gracchus family is renowned for the Saturnalia parties hosted on their estate. Saturnalia, a harvest festival dedicated to Saturn, is observed closely among the family. These festivals are intense, jubilant, and last for nearly a week. As renowned patrons of the city's farmers, the family doles out truly astounding quantities of food for the many feasts. The festival is an important social event for the city, as the strict rules regarding class are for a time flipped on their head. Nowhere is this more apparent than at the house of Gracchus, where plebeians are seated and served by the patrician family in equal standing.

The Gracchi have incorporated certain Punic traditions during the family’s contributions to the campaigns of the Punic Wars. Among these traditions were newer and more efficient forms of farming; advanced iron plows and systemic irrigation brought greater production to family lands.

The family brandishes countless important artefacts, the centrepiece being none other than the Gladius of Flavius himself. According to family legend, this Damascus steel sword of impeccable craftsmanship is believed to have been the very same used by Dido, the mythical Queen of Carthage, to end her own life, acquired by Flavius through killing one of the most accomplished generals of the Carthaginians, Hanno the Horrible, by cutting his head off with a single blow. Henceforth, the sword is passed through the generations whenever a promising candidate proves themselves worthy of wielding it.

The emblem of the Gracchus family, depicted on our banner, is the Roman Stag. It symbolises resilience, dignity, and living off the land in harmony. According to family legend, Senator Gaius Gracchus was saved from a bear by a deer when out on a hunt, only for the animal to then reveal itself as the Goddess Ceres in disguise. After the encounter, the senator adopted the stag as the family banner.

The Gracchus family has its own ferment of wine from grapes hewn from the foot of the Apennines. With a mildly sweet undertone and comforting grip, the Flavian Rubrum is an exquisite canvas of red and dark fruits, paired best with fatty meats opportunistically served after each successful conquest.

The Gracchus family provided Cura Annonae to Rome and its citizens following the conquests of the Punic Wars. New technologies introduced meant a greater availability of grains and thus, olive oil and bread. It is a welfare programme to ensure every Roman citizen has enough sustenance despite any financial hardship.

Leading up to the events of the Fall of the Republic, the Gracchus family were considered a line of hardy, industrious agricultural Patricians that have remained down-to-earth despite their accumulated influence. Led by their current head, Flavius Zekor Gracchus, named after his forefather Flavius, their family controls much of Rome’s grain and crop supply, and weathers famines and other disasters alongside the farmers who work the fields.

The bulk of the Gracchus lands lies in the fertile lands of Africa, regions taken during the Punic Wars, centered around Carthage & Alexandria, where wheat, olives and grapes are grown. The family head, Flavius Zekor Gracchus decided to purchase the family’s first villa within the districts only 20 years ago, to establish a centre of operations directly in the capital. Comfortably seated with a strong position in the senate, the family now strives to push for agrarian legislation, farm subsidisation, and land reform to achieve Flavius’ vision for a fairer, more prosperous republic.
