Biography

An early 40s man (who perhaps looks to be in his 50s due to the stress of his own predicament), Gallius Cato was born to his father Cassius and his mother Galla. His mother passed away at a young age from unknown causes, and his father might as well have been gone as well- as most of his upbringing he was raised by servants and hired hands, while his father was off drinking. In Gallius’ mid teens though, Cassius started to realize the error of what he had done with the family- and had Gallius enrolled in military training, the best of what was available due to the remaining resources and connections that Cassius hadn’t yet soured- or perhaps out of respect for Cassius’ father, an extremely successful commander. Because of all of this- and stories while he trained with his father’s military connections- he resents his father for what he had done to his family’s name. Perhaps Cassius realized this, as he drank himself to death- dying of liver cirrhosis when Gallius was 19.

When he was 20, Gallius met a young Camilla- a daughter of another wealthy military general- of which they would quickly be married. Though they loved each other deeply, Camilla Cato would die during the birth of their final children, leaving Gallius alone to head the family.

For the past 10-15 years as head of the family, Gallius has left no stone unturned in bringing reverence back to his family’s name. It goes without saying that he has poured ample time and resources to ensure that the future of the family is better prepared than he was, but he’s also spent ample time gaining connections within the military, throwing his weight around to align things more with his own interests. He has ultimately not commanded many battles, and for this reason along with his father’s reputation, his family name is still generally looked down upon- but he is a talented tactician. He’s simply waiting for his chance to push all his chips to the center of the table.

Personality wise, Gallius is hard headed, stubborn, and can be quick to anger. He’s smart, but not immune to levying harsh criticisms at his own family should they not align with his perfect vision for what the family should be. He’s also known to be a bit of a drunkard, despite (or maybe in part due to) the fate of his father. Regardless of all of this though, his motivations lie entirely on bringing honor to his family, and he still holds both a lot of pride for his family name, and a considerable amount of envy towards the few families that have managed to find themselves higher on the social ladder.
