Monkeus Vinarius is a character from Istoria 1.0: Fall of the Republic. He was the last patriarch of House Vinarius and served two terms as a Senator from 50 BC to 49 BC, known for his traditionalist, republican values which favoured class division and the conservatism of the status quo. He was killed in 49 BC during a senate meeting, initializing the Optimates Rebellion.

Biography

Monkeus was the pater familias of the Vinarius family who was in his forties at the time of his death. At a young age. Monkeus inherited a husk of a family drained by years of mismanagement. Its only possession of value was its name. A skillful administrator and calculating politician, Monkeus worked tirelessly to restore the family's fortunes and standing. With the Vinarii ascendant, Monkeus did not permit the family to rest upon its laurels, but instead relentlessly drove his children to do their part to secure the family's legacy, largely distant as a father.

As a Senator, Monkeus pushed for the preservation of the status quo, upholding tradition and opposing autocracy. This placed him at odds with many other political figures, notably those who pushed for populist reform such as Marcus Verus Sol, Divinia Umbria Icilia, and Decius Grimus Sulpicii. Meanwhile, he was supported by members of House Cato and Legion V. The tension between the two ideologies increasingly divided Rome, culminating in the murder of Monkeus at a senate meeting committed by an associate of House Gracchus.
